Your experienced guide will enlighten your journey with incredible stories and history as you continue on the 4WD only Bloomfield Track which will take you through some of the most incredible scenery in the country, crossing rivers and climbing mountain ranges.
Lunch today at The Bana Yirriji Art and Cultural Centre, Wujal Wujal which is located on the banks of the Bloomfield River with an opportunity to visit and talk with local Indigenous artists.
Continuing north we visit the infamous and quirky Lion?s Den Hotel one of Queensland?s landmark pubs, built in 1875 made of timer and iron. A short distance see the unique geological oddity, which is Black Mountain, surrounded in mystery and spoken of in ancient Aboriginal legend before arriving in Cooktown.
Ascend Grassy Hill for the spectacular panoramic views of the Endeavour River, Coral Sea and Cooktown. Have your camera ready!
Transfer to your overnight accommodation in Cooktown.
Enjoy the sunset overlooking the Endeavour River and evening at leisure.
There is much to see and do while visiting Cooktown. Visit the World Class James Cook Museum, stroll along the shores of the Endeavour River, or take the optional Aboriginal Rock Art Tour with Nugal-warra Elder Willie Gordon of Guurrbi Tours.
The unique charm and historic atmosphere of the main street still prevails. You can experience the unspoilt beauty of the area, which remains much the same as when Captain Cook knew it in 1770. Late this afternoon we depart Cooktown via the inland road, the Mulligan Highway, travelling through a diverse landscape of cattle stations and the Palmer River gold mine region, which is the outback of Far North Queensland. Stop for dinner (at your own expense) at the authentic Queensland pub in the old mining town of Mount Carbine. Your tour of exploring North Queensland comes to a completion as you are taken to your accommodation in Cairns or Port Douglas.
